MotoAmerica Barber Race Report
What a great weekend with my team, Quarterley Racing On Track Development, at the final MotoAmerica Round of 2019! The last couple of rounds had been a struggle for me, but I was feeling really good coming into Barber.
If you have never been to Barber Motorsports Park, this place is a must see. The track reminded me of a country club and the museum will leave you speechless!
We had practice and qualifying one on Friday. The bike was feeling really good and the grip on the new pavement was insane. I was able to qualify in the 6th position for both qualifying sessions, which put me on the second row. In race one, I was able to battle my way into holding 4th place, I was very excited about my finish, but being so close to third place coming across the finish line made me want the podium even more and I knew I definitely had the pace! In race two, I went out knowing I was going to have my work cut out for me and I definitely did. There were five other racers besides myself fighting for the third place position and we battled the entire race. It was a very close, fun, clean race. Fortunately, my mistake of thinking the race was over a lap too soon didn’t cost me my first MotoAmerica podium!! I was able to put in a pretty flawless final lap and in the end held onto 3rd Place.
I was really excited after the race. I was able to end my first MotoAmerica season on the podium and in 9th Place in the season points! Since I had started the season late because of my age, I wasn’t sure I would be able to get into the top ten for the season, but I did it! It was the coolest moment in my life so far. My team was waiting for me in the winner’s circle and the first person to congratulate me after them was the class champion for this year.
Although I am not yet sure of who I will race for next season, I am really excited for 2020. This podium finish gave me a little boost of confidence that I can be competitive next year.
I can’t thank my team, sponsors, supporters, family, friends and fans enough for all of the guidance, encouragement, support, phone calls, texts, comments, etc. It all means so much to me. I would not be able to follow my dream without your support – Thank you!
Next weekend, I will be at the final Loudon Road Race Series Round at NHMS. I look forward to telling you about it!
