“Focus” On Jacob Argubright
Jacob Argubright Claims 3rd Overall at Round 4 of AMA National Hare and Hound and Earns Top 5 Finish at Desert 100
Lake Elsinore, CA-
Round four of the AMA National Hare and Hound Championship took place just near Delta, Utah on Saturday April 10th, 2019, and welcomed Off-Road Support rider Jacob Argubright with open arms as the series points leader heading into the one-day event. But a challenging day of racing in the Utah terrain would threaten Argubright’s position.
Lining up on the start line, Argubright found an ideal bomb run line, and as the banner dropped he quickly lit his KX 450; racing his way towards one of his best starts of the season. Sitting within a top five position at the end of the bomb run, and into the first turn onto the course, Argubright pushed ahead to pick riders off. Over the next 5-miles, Argubright moved into the top three as it became a sprint for the next 25-miles that made up loop one.
Coming into the pits at the end of loop one, Argubright maintained his place in third overall. After a quick fuel splash in the pits, the hunt continued as the top three resumed full speed at the end of pit row. Settling into the pace, Argubright closed the gap to move into second place overall, and held it over the next 25-miles that made up a fun and flowing loop two.
As the top three continued to battle it out on loop two, Argubright maintained his position coming through the second pit, but followed closely by third. The third and final 45-mile loop would see another change in running position for Argubright, but not until the final valley crossing coming into the finish.
Argubright explained, “I just didn’t have it for these guys today. Dalton just kicked it up a gear coming across the final valley, and I wasn’t willing to put myself in a compromised position. With the points chase at a complete tie now, I am focused on my program and training as we hit the final round before summer break in May.”
Shortly after his celebration on the podium, Argubright loaded up and ventured 13-hours north to Odessa, Washington for the Desert 100. His first attempt at the infamous race, Argubright went on to claim top five overall. He stated, “The course was rough and after racing the National less than 24 hours before, my back was so fried and I started feeling it minutes into the race. I just had to get through it to finish 5th. Pushing yourself physically is powerful, you learn so much about yourself that you can’t learn anywhere else, I love it!”
