Springfield Short Track Race Report

Current Points Standing: First

The Springfield Short Track started out with me going into it only a mere two points out of first in the championship standings. My goal was to capitalize as much as I could knowing I may fare better at this track then some of my competitors.
In qualifying they sent the first group out on a fresh track which is not out of the ordinary, but we immediately saw that the track got way faster for groups 2-4. A lot of the top teams went up complaining that we need the order inverted for the second session to make it fair and give group one a track that has been ran on. The AFT decided this was not necessary which caused a lot of the top riders to qualify in the bottom of the standings.
I qualified 20th overall which is my worst all year long. This put me on the front row of heat race 4, and I was able to get a good start but was stuck on the outside of riders leaving me to finish the heat race in 5th place. Going into the semi I had a lot of nerves knowing that truly anything can happen in these races. I got off the line good and rode very aggressively making some big passes putting me into 6th place, and on the second row for the main event. Just knowing I made the main event was great, and I knew I had a strong chance of coming out of there as the points leader.
In the main I rode a hard 15 laps, but didn’t get to make many passes towards the front. I had a bunch of speed and the times to run with the top 3, but my track position held me back. I finished up the main in 8th place, but that was good enough to catapult me into first in points, and 7 points ahead of second place.
There is three rounds left in the series and I am feeling very confident that I will be able to put these races together and come out the 2017 AFT Singles Champion. I have never wanted something so badly before, and I  truly hope it all works out.
Thank you for your continued support in my program and look for us at the front this weekend in Williams Grove, PA.
