“Focus” On Phoenix Racing
Salisbury, NC (10/27/2019) – The race was held at Ironman’s notoriously tricky and difficult course that meanders around and across Offield Creek. Heavy rains courtesy of a cold front moving through made for a muddy and slick racing surface. Lap times were running at nearly one hour due to the conditions.
In College A, Noah Mickelson had already clinched the title at the last round, but he wanted to finish the season off strong. After running third for the first few laps, slick conditions took their toll and he backed off to finish fourth. Mickelson amassed three victories this season and three additional podiums.
“I’m glad the season ended the way it did; Grayson got a championship and I got a championship,” said Noah Mickelson. “I couldn’t ask for anything more. The bike was amazing all season. The Maxxis tires and the Elka suspension setup was unbeatable.”
In the motorcycle classes, Andrew Delong finished seventh in the race to notch seventh in XC1 Open Pro points. In XC2 250 Austin Lee also finished seventh and netted fifth in the title chase.
In the XC1 Open Pro race Delong went into the woods third, but hit a log and fell. He recovered to secure another top 10 in his first year with the team, which was contesting its first year in the GNCC motorcycle classes.
“It was a really good year,” said Delong. We were behind the eight ball from the very start and as a team we did well. The results don’t really show how well we did this year. Next year we’ll be much stronger, and I think the results will show that.”
The Phoenix Racing Team will return to GNCC competition in 2020.
